A program of shorts awarded at the 2025 edition of the Jonathan B. Murray Center for Documentary Journalism’s Stronger Than Fiction Film Festival. Features Molly Fox’s What Can You Hear? (winner: Best Director), in which the director, coping with the reality of a genetic hearing loss disorder, embarks on a cross-country trip with her grandmother, mother, and sister; Jj Measer’s Pass Time (winner: Special Jury Award for Editing), an inquiry into the discourse-and-misinformation cycle in the buildup to the most recent presidential election; Benjamin Zweig’s The Long Game (winner: Best Film), an exploration of the traditional passion for mahjong among Jewish women focused on one particular 40-years-and-running game; and Tommy Gleason’s Burn Control (winner: Stacey Woelfel Award for Innovative Journalism), which studies the developing use of fire as a tool for forest conservation.
