CAST: CHARLIE CHAPLIN, PAULETTE GODDARD, HENRY BERGMAN

A nearly silent feature released almost a decade into the talkies era and a tenderly handcrafted work standing up against a cruel industrial age, Modern Times was a film that only an artist of Chaplin’s stature would have the genius to make, and that only a celebrity of his magnitude could pull off on such a scale. Working as a factory hand, The Tramp finds himself transforming into a twitching automaton, to the alarm of superiors who begin to suspect him of radicalism, as the inspired gags keep coming down the conveyor belt.
