DIRECTOR: HEDDY HONIGMANN

Paris’s Père-Lachaise has as many notable “residents” (Chopin, Proust, Modigliani, Wilde, Callas, Méliès, Jim Morrison) as any cemetery in the world, but Honigmann’s touching documentary is concerned with the living—more specifically, the commiseration between the living and the dead, both the departed known personally or only through their art. A patient, open interviewer, Honigmann, a mainstay of the Icarus catalogue, creates a film of chance conversational encounters, in which light pleasantries open onto unexpected depths, offering very personal insights into the enduring resonance of art.

Screening in the series Icarus Films at 40.
